How To Enable Animated Wallpapers On Your Windows Desktop

For a long time, I have been wondering if there was a way to get animated wallpapers on my Windows desktop. There are solutions out there but they are usually unreliable and often don’t have good quality wallpapers. As I am grown tired of the static and ordinary wallpapers I simply started looking for a solution. I have now found that solution and I am incredibly excited to share it with you. If you want to enable animated wallpapers in Windows keep reading, you are not going to regret it.

The solution is called Wallpaper Engine and is an app that you can purchase from Steam for around $4.00. When you download Wallpaper Engine you will instantly enable animated wallpapers on your desktop. The process is quite simple and straightforward, however, should you be new to Steam then I have included a quick guide below to help you through the process of purchasing, downloading and installing Wallpaper Engine on your computer.

Here’s your quick setup guide for Windows 7/8/8.1/10:

Step 1: Sign up or Login to your Steam account over on the Steam website.

Step 2: Once logged in, go to Wallpaper Engine’s product page to download and learn more about the app.

Step 3: Near the middle of the page you will find the “Add to Cart” button. Click it and purchase Wallpaper Engine.

Step 4: You will be prompted to download the newly purchased app. Go ahead and download it.

Step 5: Once downloaded, install Wallpaper Engine on your computer on a destination that suits you.

Step 6: When the application has been installed you will be asked if you want to launch it. Go ahead and launch Wallpaper Engine.

Step 7: Initially, you will be asked three questions related to settings that will affect the performance of Wallpaper Engine. Answer the questions best suited for your system. These settings can be changed again later.

Step 8: The software is now installed and you are now able to choose between the pre-installed animated wallpapers that come with Wallpaper Engine. You will find them under “Installed” which is located at the top right corner of the screen. Choose one and see your desktop wallpaper transform into an animated wallpaper. Pretty neat, right?

Step 9: You are now ready to search the thousands of available animated wallpapers at your disposal. – Click “Workshop” located at the top right corner of the screen. A preview list of animated wallpapers will now load and you can preview and download the ones you are interested in.

Step 10: Enjoy!

Windows previously had an animated wallpaper feature built in, however, it was quite janky and was taken out between versions. The feature was anything but optimized, which I think many of you would agree with. [pullquote]Wallpaper Engine, on the other hand, has done a great job developing this app which is running extremely well on even the most modest computer stats.[/pullquote]

The number of animated wallpapers is already quite impressive (in the thousands), however, I think once people are starting to use this amazing app the number of available and downloadable animated wallpapers will explode.

It should be mentioned that the app is currently in beta and has a few bugs. In rare cases and circumstances, the app will lag a bit or, in worst case scenarios, crash. However, this has never happened during the time that I have been using this application. The app is continuously updated so these bugs should be ironed out quite soon.

Now, browse the thousands of animated wallpapers and if you find one that you really like, please leave us a recommendation in the comment section below. We are always interested in knowing what you guys like and what wallpapers you think could improve our Windows user experience and inspiration.
