Conway Mathematical Game of Life: Interactive with LEDs

There is a chance that this may be the geekiest thing you’ve read all week. The wonderful people at Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories created this humongous interactive Game Of Life.

According to makezine, “Each group of 8 lights has its own circuit board and ATmega164P microcontroller, and infrared proximity sensors tell it when someone touches the square. Each board has to be programmed individually, 44 in all!”

It’s hard to grasp how geektastically well this is put together until you watch the video below. If you would like to make one of these games for yourself, you can read all the juicy details about how they did it here.  This fabulous installation is currently displayed on a wall in a new exhibit which opened last week at the San Jose Museum of Art.
