It Seems We Still Love Our Museums And Yearn For The Past

Traveling to new and exciting destinations is still a fantastic past time we love to indulge in. City breaks are more popular than ever and according to Instagram, we can’t wait to share our experiences and discoveries with the online world. From London to Russia, museums are still drawing the crowds and captivating audiences.

In a modern world, filled with technology, where we function as part of a throwaway society, many of us are looking to the past to find our roots and reconnect with our history. There are, of course, different types of museums, some are filled with Art, while others display long lost creatures of the past. We’ve had a look at some of the most visited treasures to see which museums really stand out from the usual everyday tourist attractions.

London

Five of the top ten museums shared on Instagram are located in the iconic city of London. The Tate Modern isn’t just a museum, it’s an architectural gem on the banks of the Thames. Combined with the likes of the Natural History Museum and the Victoria and Albert, London is filled with masterpieces and antiquities of all kinds. People are taking trips to this historic city and its array of venues and sights, and Instagram users can’t get enough of sharing their museum experiences online.

Some of the museums in London do however court controversy over the way in which some of these priceless statues and paintings were obtained. The Elgin marbles, for example, are still under dispute between the UK and Greek governments. In small defense of London, it has managed to create some of the most glorious architecture in order to display these pieces, so they’re illuminated to their fullest potential.

Russia

Previously hidden away from view, Russia now boasts some of the finest museums in the world. The Kremlin is, of course, an architectural wonder and one of Russia’s most popular attractions. These days you can take a tour and revel in the sights on offer, such as the Armory and the Diamond Fund. Standing on Red Square you can take the perfect Instagram pictures to share with your followers.

Another one of the top ten museums located in Russia is The State Hermitage Museum, with its impressive Russian Blue façade and vast network of hallways. Home to paintings by the likes of Da Vinci, Monet, Van Gogh, and Michelangelo, this popular attraction is one of the biggest museums in the world. Private tours are available and an amazing way to enjoy what’s on offer away from the crowds.

Europe

The top of the list in Europe is, of course, The Louvre in the heart of Paris, home to the famous Mona Lisa. And then there’s the ultimate in style and history, nestled in its own private province of Rome, The Vatican. The Vatican isn’t just a place of pilgrimage for Catholics, it’s also become a place of pilgrimage for those who want to experience the unique wonders of The Vatican’s architecture, and the multitude of religious relics it now has on display.
