Innovative “Gambling And Gaming Law” Course In Utah College
Utah is one of two states the law of which prohibits nearly all gambling types and casinos so it was quite surprising when the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law announced the commencement of classes focused on gambling laws. For one semester, law students can learn about all peculiarities of the robust gambling industry in the college’s innovative “Gambling and Gaming Law” course. William (“Bill”) Boyd, a chairman of Boyd Gaming Corporation and 1957 alumnus of the College of Law, approached Jennifer Roberts with an offer to teach “Gambling & Gaming Law” class under his sponsorship. The important part of the course is visiting the gaming capital Las Vegas towards the end of the semester. The classes are not aimed at making students pursue a career in gambling law since the main idea is to provide a learner with the knowledge, which might be valuable for a future lawyer in general. A student can learn a lot from the courses like this even if he or she doesn’t plan to become a professional in this law field. One of the students who attended Robert’s course emphasized the networking aspect and the importance of connections which can be made in the process.
