20 Retro Ads Full Of Ridiculously Funny Sexism

There are all kinds of -isms in the world, and racism and sexism are probably the worst since they perpetuate stereotypes in the most terrible way. However, even as a woman, I think these ads are hilarious. Did women really have to deal with this crap back in the 50s? Really? It’s a good thing I wasn’t born back then because I would have raised some serious hell about this.

Keep in mind, these are real advertisements to sell real products, these aren’t something somebody just created in Photoshop. I bet Del Monte, Sears, Hoover, Kellogg’s, Lipton, Tampax, Listerine, General Mills, Palmolive, Ivory, Kenwood Chef, Schlitz and these other brands wouldn’t be caught dead promoting this kind of advertising now.

The original article on Buzzfeed had a total of 30 ads in this collection; so if you want to see them all, just click over to Sexism In 30 Vintage Ads. Some people say this still goes on today, just in more subtle ways. What do you think? Since I work in technology, which is a mostly male dominated field, I notice it sometimes. I usually end up using it to my advantage, so it’s never a big deal to me. In all fairness, I still have trouble opening ketchup bottles, I’m not the best driver, and I wear an apron when I cook. #justsayin
