2D Ballpoint Pen Drawings Become Animated 3D Eye Candy

All the technology being developed today which will make television a whole lot more immersive is just mind boggling. Not too long ago, you had to sit through a movie in the theater and watch it in 2 dimensions. Today we have the option of both 2D and 3D, which have made the whole 3D industry explode into one giant boiling kettle of innovation. For a brief moment, we had flat screens which came with sophisticated 3D glasses. Those were, in a matter of a year, almost entirely discarded and a new generation flat screens came on the market in which we didn’t need any 3D glasses at all in order to see the content in full 3D. The innovation in this area has been nothing less than inspiring, to say the least.

I don’t think it will be long before we’ll be able to entirely browse, work and play games on a computer in full 3D view, without any kind of accessories at all. That will certainly be a new era where websites get a whole new user interface as well as a landslide of new features and functions. When that will be is entirely up to the technology and people’s urge to embrace the technology fully. Until then, we are left with the plain old 2D interaction with the Internet and the content on it.

However, there is a new layer of awesomeness that artist Dain Fagerholm has been able to produce with just a ballpoint pen and some creative ideas. I suspect he uses some kind of 3D software to model his content (or just to manipulate it) which creates a few frames of animation of it. However, the result is nothing less than amazing. You will marvel over the insane way that these drawings pop out of the screen without it having to go through ANY kind of post 3D manipulation process at all. It’s creativity like this that will make the Internet an ever more interesting place to stay updated with. I can’t wait to see what else Dain is able to create with this new approach to a 3D perspective. Maybe we’ll soon see an entire website based on this technique. That would be epic for sure!
