Highest Paid CEOs In Charity: Some Of These Are Shocking [Infographic]

A few months ago, at the end of year, Charity Navigator released their 2012 CEO compensation study based on the CEO salaries of U.S. charities that rely on public support and donations to provide a public service. There was some shocking information in that report, specifically with regard to the highest paid CEOs in charity. Of course, it went viral on all the major news networks, and now we have an infographic to show you which visually displays this information at a glance.

Perhaps I’m looking at this the wrong way, but to me, it seems absurd that a CEO would make between a half million dollars and over 2 million dollars a year to run a company that is designed to provide money to those in need. Some of the salaries on this ‘highest paid CEOs’ list are going to probably shock you too.

I’m trying to look at this from a business perspective, and with that in mind, I understand it’s important to hire leaders with experience, connections and a passion for the charity itself. However, even considering that, I still think these salaries are ridiculous and embarrassing.

This is such a turn-off that I’m sure it could even affect how much money an individual or company would want to contribute to some of these charities, which is sad because the only people that will be affected by that are the people whom the charity is designed to help in the first place. You can read another interesting article about this here on Bloomberg.

If these are the highest paid CEOs in charity, think how many other CEOs in charity are making well over 6 figures. I guess that’s a lucrative position to be in, but I wouldn’t want it. I wouldn’t be able to sleep well at night. [Highest Paid CEOs In Charity infographic by Best MSW Programs]
