Virtual Modeling App Enables Instant Glasses Try On Sessions

The Internet is getting more powerful with each day that passes by. Household accessories and appliances like the 3D printer make our living a futuristic endeavor, and it will keep evolving. When it comes to online services, we are seeing more real life products turned into virtualizations that we can zoom, rotate and inspect. With more power comes more possibilities. The use of virtual modeling is an approach being developed as we speak, and it could come to revolutionize how we buy things.

One company in particular is pushing the envelope further when it comes to virtual modeling. When I say modeling, I don’t really mean that digitization of real life objects (even though the feature does that as well). I mean the possibility to try out or try on certain products before you buy them. That way, you will be able to see what you will look like with them on. It’s an intriguing thought, and one that will certainly make online shopping a whole lot more personal and optimized.

The idea and development comes from Jonathan Coon, co-founder and CEO of 1-800 Contacts and a spin-off site he created called Glasses.com. Jonathan wants to create a complete virtual modeling studio for glasses that will enable you to try out glasses before you buy them, all in the virtual world. The project aims to develop an app which will take a photo of you, and digitize it onto a 3D model on which you will be able to try the glasses. The virtual modeling studio will feature photorealistic modeling which will make shopping online, especially for glasses, a little bit more enjoyable.

There are other websites on the Internet that offer virtual modeling try on studios, but the technology that Jonathan’s company is developing is said to be far more specialized and advanced. Shopping on the Internet is going to be way more optimized once more companies pick up this technology. The fact that virtual modeling has not yet made a full impact online is nothing less than weird, but with great services like this, we’ll definitely see a revolution when it comes to the way we shop online.
