This Is Why Parents Shouldn’t Text [Humor]

I refuse to friend anyone in my family on Facebook. There, I said it. It completely creeps me out when my two worlds collide. There is a friend world and a family world. They are very separate and distinct in my mind.

I had an uncle that wanted to connect with me recently on Facebook, and when I didn’t, he sent me a Facebook message to remind me about it. I still didn’t. When I saw him at a family funeral last weekend, I cringed when he approached me and started asking me about it. I gave him my standard response, “Oh, I never check those silly Facebook messages. Oh, really? I didn’t see that.” Whew! Now that I’m back home, I’m safe until I see him at another family wedding or funeral, or until he reads this.

What about texting? Do you text people in your family? My 10-year-old son can text like a champion. His little fingers get going and it’s like watching a racehorse approach the finish line. He just doesn’t stop. However, our parents, on the other hand, are a little different. I think it’s so cute to watch old people text, and it’s even funnier to read them (especially if the auto-correct is on). You never know what you might see, if the text makes it to you. As you know, sometimes just typing in the right destination can be a challenge for some people. It makes me laugh just thinking about it. A new website called Parents Shouldn’t Text highlights some of these parental texting disasters. If you need a giggle in your day, go to that website for five minutes. You’ll be laughing your butt off in no time.
