This is going to blow your mind!

According to the Stanford University website, MoPHo (short for Mobile Phone Orchestra) is a new repertoire-based ensemble using mobile phones (iPhones) as the primary musical instrument. This particular orchestra, made up of 10 members, performed at this year’s Macworld. Generous support from Nokia funds this group so they are able to practice and perform.

This iPhone orchestra does not use an app to make their incredible music. Instead, they choose a tone, then change the pitch and timbre using the accelerometer.

You and I can also make beautiful music on our iPhone. Have you heard of the iPhone app called Ocarina, by Smule? This app allows ordinary people, like us, to pretend we are classically trained musicians playing our iPhones.

Now it’s time for the mind-blowing part of this article. Check out the iPhone renditions below of Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven and Tapion’s Theme.

Enjoy!
