If you read all the reviews for the Android app, Mobile Defense (currently in public beta), you’ll see that everyone is calling it a Lojack for your phone because it functions exactly like one, and the best part? It’s free.

When I read about this app, I immediately downloaded it on my Droid. Suddenly I’m not concerned about losing my phone anymore. This Android security utility uses almost no memory or battery power unless you are using it.

If your phone is lost or stolen, you will now be able to log into your computer to perform all kinds of commands including backing up your information, wiping the data off your phone, disconnecting your service and even sending an alert message to your phone will make it start screeching a terribly loud noise (even if it’s on silent or vibrate).

The website will provide you with the address and map for where your phone is located. It will also tell you if your phone is moving in a car! And, yes, it relies on more than just GPS technology to obtain this information.

To take advantage of Mobile Defense on your phone, just follow these steps:

Go to Android Market on your phone (which has 20,000 apps now!)
Type in Mobile Defense
Install the app and create an account
Go to https://www.mobiledefense.com
Open your application and register, then go to your computer to test it out! When I tested mine, I left my phone in my car, and then followed the steps as if it was lost.

When you test it, you’ll see that it only takes about three minutes for the website to connect to your phone. A text will show up on your phone from mobile defense that sends the signal to the website. This app will even let you know via email if someone takes out your SIM card and puts a new one in. When that happens, Mobile Defense goes into “emergency mode” to protect you even further by providing you with information on the new SIM card, etc…

Since I lose my phone about every three or four months, I cannot even tell you how cool this is! I hope you download it and experience it for yourself!

This video explains everything in even more detail.
