A new technology on the rise is the ever so impressive smart lock. There have been a lot of concerns when it comes to smart locks that claim these locks are only going to increase break-ins and heartache for people who are living in houses sporting them. Since the first smart lock was introduced, there has been a lot of innovation in this area. Kwikset Kevo is a new lock recently rolled out, and it features some pretty cool features.
The Kwikset Kevo smart lock is a whole lot different than all the other smart locks (the few that are available that is) on the market. Kwikset Kevo is a deadbolt smart lock that uses Bluetooth to connect and authenticate it with your smartphone. The groundbreaking feature that sets this smart lock apart from all the others is that it has a proximity feature that determines whether you are inside your house or not.
As a matter of fact, you don’t even have to do anything with your phone other than to sync it with the Kwikset Kevo smart lock when it’s installed. Once it’s synced and authenticated, all you need to do is be within a certain area of the lock and touch the door handle. The lock will check if you have the authenticating key within your phone, and if you do, it will unlock the door for you.
That’s where the proximity feature comes in. The Kwikset Kevo is so smart that it can sense whether you are inside the house or in front of the door trying to get inside. This renders it virtually impossible for anyone to touch the handle and get in when you’re inside the house and close to the door it’s installed on. The smart lock can of course be unlocked with a key as well if you have forgotten your smartphone somewhere. In combination with the fingerprint authentication feature on the iPhone 5S, and the robust security features within the smart lock itself, it makes this lock one of the most secure smart locks on the market, if not the most secure.
