Okay, I admit it. I was looking for an excuse to feature this guy’s cute butt in my article, but that’s not the only point, right? The main purpose is to share with you that these underpants might soon be standard issue in the U.S. Military because they can save lives.
Joseph Wang, from the University of California, developed this “super underwear” which contains electrodes that can measure blood pressure, heart rate and vital signs. The waistband can even carry medication and administer it in certain circumstances.
This is relevant because it is likely that eventually this underwear will be available to everyone. I can imagine so many uses including Grandmas and Grandpas who need their health monitored, women in a high-risk pregnancy, diabetics who need to monitor their blood sugar frequently, and even rare situations with children.
We write a lot about advances in technology on Bit Rebels. I’m usually not surprised by how far the human mind can go with creativity and discovery; however, I never thought I’d see the day when a pair of underwear could administer medicine in an emergency situation. This is pretty darn cool. You can read more about it on the Discovery News website or on Yahoo News. Oh, and Tracy Staedter, girl… you picked a good picture.
