Angel: Innovative Open Source Health Monitor For Creative Developers

Since wearable tech is so popular right now, it seems like every week there is a new wearable health monitor announced. Whether it comes in the form of high tech baby booties or an exercise bracelet that tracks your fitness goals, we’ve seen it all. The one thing we haven’t seen until now though is an open source health monitor that tracks all vital statistics, which is ready for creative developers to make apps. Just think of all the possibilities a sensor like that would introduce.

Now such a health monitor exists. It’s called Angel, and it’s a wristband that monitors heart rate, blood oxygen, temperature and motion. Most of the wristbands on the market now are mainly for fitness, but Angel was created to be a much more serious health monitor.

Another aspect of this wristband that makes it different from all the others is that it’s designed for developers. The open platform will allow developers the ability to create apps that can help all kinds of people with specific health issues. According to the Angel website:

“Developers will be able to use Angel to create apps for iPhone, Android, and other devices that support Bluetooth 4.0. Our SDK, drivers and app templates will be released as open source. With advanced sensors and a completely open platform, the possibilities are endless.”

The Angel wristband is made to be worn 24/7. The sensor will accurately track all your vital signs, your activity, your weight and caloric intake, and even your sleep patterns. It will also act as an early warning system, which will definitely save lives.

The creators of Angel just launched their crowdfunding campaign on Indigogo. In a little over 48 hours, they’ve already amassed over $24,000 of their $100,000 goal. If you would like to learn more about Angel, you can click over to their Indiegogo page, or check out their website (linked above). I hope they reach their funding goal!
