How To Train Your Dog To Use An iPad [Video]

There are some developers who specialize in creating iPad apps for pets. If you do a search, you’ll see there are all kinds of games designed to entertain your dogs, cats and even birds. But what if you want to train your dog to actually use your iPad? How hard would that be? Before I saw the video below, I thought it would be tough. As you’ll see though, it doesn’t seem very difficult. Like with all dog training though, it will definitely require your patience and love.

Best case scenario would be that you could train your dog to do things like check the weather and make your coffee for you in the morning, all with an iPad app. If you set your expectations that high, you might be disappointed. However, if you just want to train your dog to do some basic iPad functions like paw a response to something by pressing an icon hard enough to load a new page on your device, it’s definitely do-able.

In the video below, you’ll see dog trainer Anna Jane Grossman. She has been giving dogs private iPad lessons in New York for the past year. I’ve read that overall, cats seem to be more receptive to iPad apps and games than dogs, so I’m wondering if it would be possible to train cats to do the same thing. It seems cats are more techie, if that’s possible in the pet world.

Anna Jane hopes that someday dogs will be able to really help humans via a tablet. Wouldn’t it be great if your dog could help you do your online banking or look up a recipe? Of course, that’s probably wishful thinking. In the meantime, you can at least familiarize him with your device.
