Power Charger Fuels Your Smartphone Using Just A Hot Or Cold Source

How many smartphone emergency chargers have you read about by now? Quite a few I reckon. Well, it seems there are still a few ways you can reinvent the smartphone power charger. The “new” solar power chargers are in abundance right now. You can get them for your jacket, your backpack, you name it. When it comes to power chargers, maybe the ‘onE Puck’ smartphone charger (it charges other mobile devices too) is one to keep a close eye on.

The ‘onE Puck’ does not utilize any new technology. However, what it does do is utilize the power of a Stirling engine powered solely by heat disparities, such as a hot or cold drink, a candle, ice, etc. This would come in real handy no matter where you are. Imagine being in a hurry, and your mobile device runs out of battery. Just bust out one of these ‘onE Pucks,’ put your hot coffee cup on it and viola! Like magic, your mobile device will start getting charged.

A Stirling engine is not a new technology by any stretch of the imagination, but modern materials and modern electronics have been put into this in ways that weren’t previously possible. The ‘onE Puck’ power charger has two sides to it, depending on whether you have a cold or a hot source of heat around you. Say for example you’re drinking a cold Coca Cola just when your battery dies. All you need to do is plug the ‘onE Puck’ power charger into your mobile device, turn the blue side of the puck up, and place your coke on it. Your mobile device is now charging.

Do you think this sounds too good to be true? Well, the product is not a commercial one yet. The company behind it, Epiphany Labs, is looking for funding through Kickstarter in order to fund the last leg of commercialization. They want to raise $100,000 in 57 days, and if funding is successful, we could all enjoy the ability to charge our mobile devices with the help of a hot or cold source. Sounds like science fiction come true. Head over to their Kickstarter page to pledge, and bring the future into the present today.
