Geek Design: The Television Built Into A Lab Coat

Wearable LED Television Lab Coat

Are you worried that watching television might be keeping you from doing your daily chores? Do you feel like you need to get off the couch and get more exercise? Here’s a way to have your cake and eat it too. All you need to do is wear this coat which has a TV built right into it. Now you can just look down at your body or arms to watch TV while you are walking, driving your car or even exercising. Hmm… Now that I think about it, that might not be a good idea.

This wearable LED television, which you can watch in the video below, was designed by Dave Forbes. It works by plugging it into a DVD player or iPod. The resolution is 160×120. What? You were expecting HD? Nah…

Dave just built this coat to wear to Burning Man (an annual art event that you have to apparently see to believe). As you see, the display wraps all the way around the coat, and is even on the sleeves. It’s all powered by a 12V battery, and there are circuit boards on the shoulder and hips. This build took David 6 months and $20,000 to make. I wonder if it’s heavy and uncomfortable to wear. I don’t care if it is, I’d want to try it on anyway! You can click over to cathodecorner to get all the geeky details about how he did it.
