Top 10 Fastest Supercomputers In The World [Infographic]

I bet you have at some point thought your new computer must be a supercomputer, right? At least in comparison to what you had prior to it. With time, it seems our computers are getting slower, but that is not really the case. What happens is that the software we use on it gets more powerful, which makes the computer struggle more. That’s when we all wish we had access to one of the many supercomputers currently being constructed throughout the world.

On a couple of occasions, we have written about supercomputers, and what they are meant to do. But we’re usually stuck on one at a time, right? Did you know there are more than 520 supercomputers currently running their processors hot from doing all kinds of calculations?

It’s an insane number that would make any data processing take less than a few seconds. That’s with their combined power, but we are not quite there yet. Instead, we are currently only able to use one supercomputer at a time. However, that’s no small feat either as you will see when having a look at the top 10 fastest supercomputers in existence.

This list, or should I say infographic, is compiled by AIS. It is simply called The Top 10 Fastest Supercomputers, and it gives us a mind-boggling look into the world of data processing on steroids. We’re no longer measuring processing power in GB/s but in petaflops/s, which is enough to make even your own brain jealous to the point of ridicule.

So where is the most powerful and fastest supercomputer in the world located? Well, currently and by any official knowledge, the one out of all of these supercomputers that knocks the ball out of the park is the Tianhe-2 which is located in Guangzhou in China. It has a processing power of an incredible 33.86 petaflops per second. But if you think its purpose is to entertain the elite gamers of China, you are ultimately wrong. Its sole purpose is to serve as an open research platform for researchers in southern China.
