We always hear about couples meeting on Facebook. Apparently Facebook is a very handy dating tool, and it seems like every week I read about how that site is either reuniting past lovers, breaking up marriages or nurturing new relationships. According to Chadwick Martin Bailey, a market research firm out of Boston, over 20% of couples meet online these days.
That is a huge number considering that I remember back in the 90s when it was considered dangerous to even use your real name on the Internet. Wow, times have changed, and I think it’s all for the better. Meeting someone fun to hang out with on a social media site can only enhance the whole experience, don’t you think? Obviously it’s important to be safe about it, but sometimes it can even lead to a more serious relationship. Twitter, my favorite social networking site, isn’t quite like Facebook in the sense that I don’t see a lot of people meeting and dating as a result of tweets.
Some people say that Twitter DM is the new sexting, so maybe a lot is happening off the public timeline, but I just don’t see it. I remember reading this article in the Huffington Post about a couple who got married after meeting on Twitter, and the groom tweeted from the alter. That was a really sweet story, but I just don’t hear enough about couples meeting on Twitter, so I wanted to do something to hopefully change that.
I decided to write a post with some absolutely amazing guys just to see what happens. Each one of these guys agreed to be in this post, and they completed a little bachelor’s questionnaire. You may be wondering how I chose whom to include. I decided to enlist a few friends to help me. Each person in this post was hand-selected by either @JessicaNorthey, @radiopotato1, @krystynchong or me. Thank you ladies for your help. You mean the world to me, and I love you dearly. I’ve been working on this post on and off since May, and I’m so delighted to finally share it with you today. It is my greatest wish that perhaps this will spark a fun evening spent with Twitter friends, a romantic dinner for two, or even a lifelong partnership. You never know, right?

Girl Talk: Jason is a filmmaker, writer and digital producer. He directed the feature documentary, The Youngest Candidate. I became friends with Jason back in late 2008/early 2009 when he, @kim, @Minervity, @mistygirlph, @cheth, @ShellyKramer, @zaibatsu, @mayhemstudios and I became a close-knit group of friends on Twitter. Girl Talk: Cory is the main reason why I wanted to write this post. I remember the night my dear Twitter friend Alyssa (who, like Jason Pollock, is another person who’s been in our core group of friends since back in the day) tweeted that her brother Cory was playing a live concert from home on ustream. I, along with tons of other people on Twitter, tuned in to watch him sitting at his computer in tube socks, playing his guitar. With his big smile, funny faces and obvious talent, he had no problem charming all the ladies (unintentionally I’m sure). The way Cory and his sister interact is so loving, and it’s obvious they come from a very special family. Cory recently released some of his music called Landings, which you can check out here. Girl Talk: I had the pleasure of meeting Thomas through @mistygirlph about a year ago. He is one of those people who makes Twitter such a fun place to hang out. The reason I asked Thomas to be in this post is because in my opinion, being creative and living in a world of creative thoughts and ideas is one of the most attractive qualities in a man. Thomas ooooozes creativity. He is the Creative Director at Philips Design and an extraordinary photographer. He was also recently named the most influential person on Twitter in the Netherlands. Girl Talk: Lotay is Founder of Black Card Circle, Chairman of the Black Card Circle Foundation, President of New Horizons Perpetual Foundation, Director of Finance for AYC, and a guest blogger for Bankrate.com. I have a lot of friends who I’ve met through social media, but I can count on one hand those that are in my inner circle. Those are the friends that you can tell anything to without feeling like you are being judged or criticized. Lotay is one of those special friends of mine. Girl Talk: Sean is one of the brightest shining stars in the Twitterverse. He’s a well-known blogger at Huffington Post, and I had the privilege of getting to know him better when he graciously included me in his article (which he co-wrote with @paul_steele) entitled Rise of the Female Geek. Sean manages social media for the See Your Impact, a Seattle-based nonprofit. He’s appeared on CNN, PBS and Fox. Sean is also an author, and he will be releasing a children’s book soon. He is truly one of the most inspiring souls I’ve ever had the pleasure to get to know.

Jessica wrote, “What can you say about The Punisher and HBO’s Hung star Thomas Jane? I try not to gush over him, not because he’s been dubbed one of the sexiest men alive *many times* but because he’s a brilliant businessman with many interests. He’s an extremely artistic actor, director, producer, musician and writer. He’s athletic, generous and very authentic. In addition to all that, he’s an amazing father! Girl Talk: I will never forget the first time I talked to Paul on skype. The whole time he was talking, I didn’t understand a word of his heavy UK accent. All I could say was, “Pardon? Excuse me? Huh? What?” It makes me laugh every time I think about it. Since then, he usually prefaces the conversation with, “I’ll talk slowly.” Hahaha A lot can happen in a year. I remember when Paul first started his Bald Hiker blog. Now, only a short time later, he is recognized as the World’s Most Influential Travel Writer. Paul is also consistently listed as part of the Twitter Elite, which includes the top 100 Twitter users. Paul is a very dear friend of mine, and if we lived closer, I’d be hitting him up to ride bikes with me on the weekends. He’s got a big heart, and an even bigger smile. Khayyam is the most intuitive person I’ve ever met, and he lives his life differently than anyone else I know. He is a free spirit, and everything he does has a little Khayyam magic in it. Girl Talk: The legendary @krystynchong nominated Aral for this post. I’m so glad she did because I’ve gotten to know Aral quite well over the past few months, and he is truly a gem. What a special person inside an out. Aral is a lot more than just a brilliant designer (he designed this site touch-first, starting with his iPad). He describes himself as being a Renaissance Geek with a passion for designing user experiences and a desire to make the world a better place through technology and oratory. Right now he’s working on an upcoming conference called The Human Touch: iOS & Beyond which will be in Brighton, UK. When I think of Aral, the words patient and compassionate come to mind. Please tell us something about you that most people don’t know. “Most people are surprised when I tell them that I’m a hobby gymnast. I’m not competitive at all, but at 28 years of age, I decided to learn gymnastics. I started with many wipeouts, but now I incorporate back flips into my daily workout. I love how it represents both the wonder of childhood as well as the power of perseverance.”
Girl Talk: Ladies, it’s obvious why I invited Joseph to be part of this post, right? He has the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen on a man. He’s also sensitive and romantic. He sends tweets to the woman he knows he will meet someday. Last night he sent one that read, “Beautiful late night walk in the rainstorm, thunder and lightning… Wish you were with me to share it.” :) I’ve known Joseph for a little over a year, and I can tell you that he is a beautiful person inside and out. According to Jessica, “If Curtis had it his way, he would be pitching for the Rangers and singing the National Anthem simultaneously. He openly shares the story about how he gave up baseball for a girl. It’s my hope that he will find a woman he can share his dreams and ambitions with.”

Girl Talk: Aaron is one of my dearest Twitter friends, and often when I tweet him I use the hashtag #twitterfamily or #twitterbrother because he is truly like the brother I never had. He’s like the kind of brother who is younger, smarter, and always sticks up for you. He recently graduated from University, and he keeps saying that someday soon he is going to come to the States to visit. He knows my home is always open to him, and I told him when he comes, we will have the biggest Twitter party ever and invite all our friends. Aaron has a big heart, and is always fun and flirty. His message to all the girls reading this is… “Don’t keep me waiting!” :P

Girl Talk: I remember about a year and a half ago, I started noticing Joshua’s tweets because he’s so funny. His mix of humor and sarcasm always gives me a giggle right when I need it. When I checked out his Twitter profile and saw that he’s from Nova Scotia, I knew I had to get to know him better. Nova Scotia is my favorite places in Canada. I’ve never seen him tweet an unkind word to anyone, and he is known as being friendly and compassionate. Joshua is also the design/tech person for Tiny Buddha. People are naturally drawn to him, which is why I was so excited when he accepted my invitation to be in this post!

I expose him or her to all activities a person might do. At the end of that time, the puppy enters the formal training program at the Leader Dog for the Blind Campus. At the end of a 5 month training, the puppy, who is now a dog, is matched with a visually impaired/blind client.”

I always tell him that if his current gig doesn’t work out, he could always be a stand-up comedian because he’s soooo freaking funny. Please tell us something about you that most people don’t know. “I am what is known as severely ambidextrous. I can’t swing both ways alternatively. There are activities that I am left-handed with (writing, eating, gun play, etc), and there are those activities that I am right-handed with (every sport except for pool). There are no tasks that I can use either hand. When I threw in a steel-tipped dart league, I would get the strangest looks because I would toss right-handed and chalk up my score left-handed. I don’t believe anyone ever put that together.”
Girl Talk: Every eligible bachelor list has to have a bad boy, right? Alex is our bad boy. He is like the Howard Stern of Twitter. He asked if he could interview me for his radio show once, but I never followed up with him about that because I’m nervous about what the questions would be! *blushing* He and his partner-in-crime, Dave Malby (above), will make you turn ten shades of red with their… um… “adult-themed” tweets. I met Alex through Dave, and I’ve had the best time getting to know him. He’s fun and flirty, and I bet her would be an absolute blast to go on a date with!

I remember when my son, Henry, joined Twitter when he was only 9-years-old (don’t worry, he didn’t have his password and he wasn’t allowed to tweet without me). Ruhani was right there with him every step of the way, and he was acting like a big brother. It was the nicest thing ever, and I will always be grateful for that. He is truly a shining star on Twitter, and his positive light shines brightly for all to see. In addition to this, he is a very talented photographer and the number one most networked person in the entire country of Malaysia. He has friends in 76 countries, and I can understand why.

Girl Talk: I actually med David in the strangest yet most practical way. When Bit Rebels grew to the point where we needed a CDN, I started calling around to companies I found on the Internet (A CDN is a Content Delivery Network. In plain English, they host our thousands of images so our site loads a lot faster). We were expecting a CDN that was just a regular ‘ol company who we sign up with and then never hear from again. However, our CDN, which is the office where David works, is the coolest CDN on the planet. David, Ameer, Omar and all the other guys there are always a blast to talk to. They are constantly having fun and they even invited us to Los Angeles to party with them. Next time I’m in L.A. I definitely want to take their whole crew out to lunch. I really think David is one of Twitter’s best kept secrets. He’s incredibly smart, a lot of fun, he’ll keep you laughing the whole time, and he’s quite a cutie. What more could you ask for?

If she is not a blogger and not on Twitter when they get married, he will gift her that site and Twitter account so she can start learning about it if she wants to. Isn’t that the most romantic thing ever? All of this, and I haven’t even mentioned that Sunil is a tech superstar. He is an example of someone I would have never met if it wasn’t for Twitter, and I value his friendship dearly. He is sweet and sensitive. It truly is a gift to know him.

His claim to fame is that he understands all obscure Golden Girls references. He was born in Mexico, and he currently owns a CrossFit Gym (but he’s not a meathead).
