Expert, authority, guru, phenomenon, pro, shark, whiz, wizard, get 100, get 1000, get 10000, get 400000000 followers a day, get me on your list, I will get you on mine, follow me, follow me, follow me, if I reach 100 followers by the end of the week I will jump in to  a lake, I will help you with being yourself, I have a secret and I will share with you (and millions of others) how to reach happiness, follow me, follow me, give me, give me, give me, hundreds, thousands, my twitter is bigger than yours, I’m on the top of that list, A number one, I am the biggest, millions of followers ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH! STOP!!!!!!

Do numbers matter? Does anyone really think they can be an expert about what tools YOU should use to reach YOUR goals? I have made a small video where I talk about what I think about all this. Please bear in mind, while watching it, that  I am no expert, it was 7AM in the morning on a Saturday and I really didn’t know how to address this touchy subject.

Please don’t let people tell you how to use Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr or whatever they say they are experts in. Explore, talk about it with those you trust and make up your own mind. Build your relationships, don’t worry about the numbers: If you are genuine people will reach out to you! Be yourself! (and if you need help at  being yourself I know a guy that knows a guy that knows a guy that can sell you that as well. Not really, just kidding)

PS: After uploading this video and having shared with some of  my most trusted ones  I was asked why the “Not an Expert” label on the video. I have decided to share with all of you why:

Classic! The last clip is totally a five star! LOL That’s what I call a social media guru. Awesome!

The article pinpoints the exact mindset everyone should have. Great job!

Social Media what??? :-) ))
Thanks Richard! We have to recover the ability to laugh at ourselves and with it show to others, by example, that it is all right. I did 66 takes to make a 3m video and guess what? I had lots of fun doing it :-) )

The only problem with your post is that, in the end, people will love your “making of” so much, they will forget everything else. :D DD

[...] In: web resources 1 Dec 2009 My recent post “The 5 most annoying things about Google Wave” generated some feedback and one reader made quite a interesting question: “Can someone (anyone) list 5 things possible on Wave that you CANNOT do using established familiar tools?” The answer to your question is: Yes!  But, before I go and write one of my beloved lists,  I would like to point something that I think is important to highlight: Google Wave is a new frontier, a new way of doing things and integrating concepts and practices into one place. Pretty much like Twitter (or anything else)  its up to you, the user, to discover how you can use it and how it can be of use to YOU.  This is one of my quests and you can read more about what I think of this subject right here. Yes, yes, yes, and yes! You have hit on the true essence of what social media is all about: being yourself and doing what you want to do. ¡Excelente, maravilloso, so true! It is all about expression and connection. Simple as that.
