Massive Attack is one of those music projects that has reached the superstar status without ever giving up their original style, concept and beliefs. The sound of the British project as evolved at the same rate as their political activism that, in some way, as given it a cult following with a very wide audience. Many people don’t know who they are but as soon as you say “The music from Dr. House” people immediately know who you are talking about.
Massive Attack’s project has always been about more than just a normal music project: It depends heavily on guest musicians and singers for collaboratios, its live shows are full of video projections and LED screens (that usually broadcast heavily charged political messages) and for that they depend on creative video directors and their teams to pass that message: to put a song’s concept into images. Not an easy task.
To promote its new album “Heligoland” (the 5th in Massive Attack’s discography) Massive Attack recently released a video for the single “Splitting the Atom“. Directed by Edouard Salier (that has directed music videos for such projects as AIR, commercials for Absolut Vodka and has own many prizes for his short films), “Splitting the Atom”’s video is a work of art by itself that deserves to be watched over and over again such is the immensity of details that are revealed with each viewing.
