This Is The World’s First Bikini

World's First Bikini From 1946

As the saying goes, there is always a first for everything. When it comes to fashion, that seems to be the motto more than an accident or lucky string of events. Sometimes fashion can be really hard to understand. The sometimes outrageous ways supermodels are dressed by designers before they walk down the catwalk is just beyond what you could imagine. It’s fun though. It gives us that extra spark to our everyday ordinary lives as we know it. It’s exceptional as well since it’s a way to push ideas to the very limit, and that is always good when you try to find something new and trendy.

Of course there are fashion trends that we thought were kind of new to the world, but it turns out, they have been around for a very long time. Take the bikini for example. When do you think women started wearing this highly popular piece of clothing? Any ideas? Well, it so happens that the very first official bikini was introduced back in 1946. Yup, that is right! That was a long time ago, and it still looks kind of the same, doesn’t it?

The bikini was designed and “launched” by Louis Réard and fashion designer Jacques Heim in Paris in 1946. The word bikini was actually taken from a series of islands called the Bikini Atoll where there was some atomic bomb testing going on during the summer of the introduction of the bikini. Isn’t it fantastic what you can learn by just doing a little bit of research? So, from now on, you will always know why they call women in a bikini a “bombshell.”
