2012: Some Of The Most Popular Halloween Costumes [Infographic]

There are only a few days left until Halloween, and I’m surprised at how many people I’ve talked to who plan to dress up but haven’t figured out their costumes yet. We’ve already written about how 2012 is the year of the DIY Halloween Costume, so in that case, maybe it’s okay to wait until the last minute, especially if you plan to make your costume out of things you find around your house. I thought it would be fun to dress up as an iPhone 5 this year, and to my surprise, that is definitely not on the list of the most popular Halloween costumes.

Speaking of the most popular Halloween costumes, do you know what made the list? It might surprise you, or at least it did me. This infographic simply called Hallowe’en by CouponCodes4U lists the most popular Halloween costumes this year for kids and adults (along with some other fun Halloween stats). They determined this information by surveying 1,874 random people who are planning to celebrate Halloween.

For this particular “most popular list,” they focused on celebrity costumes and movie serial killer costumes. On the celebrity list, I wasn’t surprised to see Barack Obama and Mitt Romney for obvious reasons, but Nicki Minaj as number one? And of course, it’s always fun to see the classics like Jason Vorhees, Freddy Kreuger, Michael Myers and Ghostface on the movie serial killers list. I wasn’t surprised at all to see that Honey Boo Boo was number one on the kid’s list. I actually know of an adult who will be dressing up as Honey Boo Boo this year.

If you need a quick and easy DIY Halloween costume this year, I saw a great tutorial for how to make a unicorn horn, cat ears and a devil horns over here on Craft. If all else fails, and if you run out of time, you can always dress up as a hipster. All you’ll need are some black-rimmed glasses with the lenses popped out, some skinny jeans, a plaid shirt with a cassette tape in the pocket, a polaroid camera to hang around your neck (or any retro camera) and a 6-pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer. Now that I think about it, that would be pretty funny.
