Giving Someone The Finger: It’s An Art Form [20 Pics]

People Giving The Bird Finger

Have you ever given anyone the finger? You know, have you ever flipped someone a bird? There are a lot of reasons why we give each other the famous one-finger salute. Some people do it as an act of road rage; others do it to say f-off, and even others do it because in some cases, it’s easier to stick up a finger than to be witty with words. Some people even do it as a joke, or as confirmation that he or she is a genuine douchebag. There are many different reasons why people choose to use this universal gesture.

However, what you might not realize is that there are many different middle finger variations. Also, depending on the culture, finger flippage can mean different things in different countries. This article on Cracked called Flipping The Bird explains these variations, along with the origins of giving the finger.

I decided to put together a collection of photographs that illustrate giving the famous bird in many different ways and situations. As you see, there is apparently no age appropriate time when people start or stop using this gesture. There are infants who master the finger dexterity to pull it off, and there are old people who still got it. There is definitely some skill required though because some of these people’s fingers look like they are supposed to, and other people’s fingers look lame. Hmm… I’m getting in the mood to flip someone off just for the fun of it. :)
