Face-Kini: The Outrageous Face Bikini That Looks Like A Ski Mask

sun-protection-ski-masks

Like most people I know, I’m aware of how much sun I’m getting when I’m outside. Times have changed a lot from the days when I was a 14-year-old girl who slathered baby oil on my skin to get some quick color. I’m very pale by nature, and although I like getting a suntan as much as anyone, I’m not a fan of skin cancer or wrinkles so I try to wear sunblock whenever I can. The question I have for you is – How far are you willing to go to block the sun from getting on your face? Would you wear this crazy looking ski mask thing at the beach?

I was reading an article this morning about the most outrageous trends in 2012, and when I saw this one on the list I couldn’t believe I had missed it along the way. This thing is called the “face-kini,” and it’s basically a bikini for your face (although it covers more skin than I would expect for a bikini). This fashion that looks like a ski mask is apparently all the rage on the beaches in China. People there can find these in the stores alongside the swimming suits and beach towels. The purpose of this thing is to protect your entire head from the sun. I know what you’re thinking – what happened to the standard wide-rimmed beach hat and SPF 50 sunblock? I don’t know, but my guess is that the people who wear this think it looks good.

Some of these ski mask thingies come in the form of a full body suit. In addition to protecting you from the sun, you’ll also have protection from mosquitoes and jellyfish (and other human beings too). As silly as this all seems, just try to remember that different cultures have different styles. After all, even though I like to darken my pale, white skin, in many cultures, the ladies like to bleach their skin so it’s as white as possible. Different strokes for different folks (but you still couldn’t get me to wear this thing).

We just need to get past the fact of it as new fashion, or its other uses as we have for decades. Think of some of the looks we had going on in the eighties? Some people with skin cancer and other conditions are using them to help be able to be outside. Sure they look weird at first, but really could have some uses as well as fun and a bit of laughter. They are on Ebay, Etsy, FB , and other sites now in the USA, so I don’t think they are going away yet like the umbrella hats of the decades past have……actually those are still here!! Nice article. Cheers,
