Extraordinary Ad

10/03/2009 - 5:00 pm By Misty Belardo

I’ve been exposed to commercials, had my share of producing and collaborating with the best Directors, production managers, cameramen, talents.  Real reason why I got into advertising.   Wanted to see how one was produced and up to now I still love the process.  Although, I may not be doing the same thing now, I still appreciate a lot of the commercials that are produced and aired.

Found this ad as I was doing some research and I loved it.  It did not show the product in use but what it had shown was values one must have in order to be strong and really follow your dreams.  To shine and stand out.

Thai Pantene television commercial. Its simply brilliant. The story of a deaf and mute girl who learns to play the violin against all odds. One of the most touching advertisements seen in a long, long time. The TVC had 1.7M views and now I know why.  Check it and find out for yourself why it was entitled extraordinary.

Thank you, Misty, for posting this extraordinary Pantene commercial.

One of the finest jazz pianists and one of the best persons I’ve ever known is George Shearing, blind since birth (1919). You can read about him on this web page of mine:

People with handicaps, or, as we say today, who are disadvantaged, can and do achieve tremendous things.

Your buddy,

George

Your post really moved me, Misty. I decided to add the Pantene video and another video about a friend of mine who is a handicapped jazz pianist to my big band blog, The Palomar:

The video was very inspirational, but does it meet the definition of a commercial? What was the product or service?

My gut tells me its one of those ‘scam’ ads – that is to say an ad that isnt really crafted by an agency for a client as business, but one that is generated under the guise of a client, primarily for entry to awards and competitions.
I’m not knocking it, because it is an interesting ‘idea’ but at 4mins long, I would question where on TV it would find an airing slot. TV slots are usually 15sec, 30secs and special cases around a minute…but 4mins?
Regardless….pretty and emotive….

Beautiful! Inspirational! Great find, Misty! I wonder where did it air; it’s so long? No matter, the message is excellent!

Great short film/ad! The hairography at the end there got a bit crazy, but the story was told well.

Great Ad Misty,

Still don’t get why it’s an ad for shampoo but honestly who cares it’s a great story.

I wish more ads were like that one.

Wow, that moved me to tears. What is that song anyway? I have a clip of a young man playing the same song on an electric guitar. AH, uploaded it to YouTube (that was easy!). Here’s a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnzKolmnHiA It’s the same song isn’t it? What is it called?

Some time ago, I really needed to buy a good house for my business but I didn’t have enough money and couldn’t purchase something. Thank goodness my sister proposed to try to get the http://www.lowest-rate-loans.com from banks. So, I did that and was satisfied with my auto loan.
