$1 Million Dollar Reward For Photographing This Mermaid

I have always been mesmerized by mermaids. When I was a little girl, I was so fascinated with mermaids that I tried to convince everyone around me that they were real.

I was inspired to write this article after I read a story about the town of Kiryat Yam in Israel. Because dozens of people have made claims that they’ve seen a real mermaid leaping out of the water like a dolphin, the local government recently offered a prize of US $1 million dollars to anyone that could prove it with a photograph.

Apparently, this mermaid only shows herself at sunset. She performs a few tricks in the water for the people watching, and then she dives down into the water and disappears. According to http://www.livescience.com, “It’s not clear what people are seeing, though the power of suggestion and imagination can be strong. Identifying animals in water is inherently problematic, since eyewitnesses by definition are only seeing a small part of the creature. When you add in the factor of low light at sunset and the distances involved, positively identifying even a known creature can be very difficult — to say nothing of a mythological one!”

Does this mean that I can keep my little girl hope alive that mermaids exist? I’m choosing to believe yes, it does.
