Augmented Reality is a term for a live direct or indirect view of a physical real-world environment whose elements are merged with (or augmented by) virtual computer-generated imagery – creating a mixed reality. The augmentation is conventionally in real-time and in semantic context with environmental elements, such as sports scores on TV during a match. With the help of advanced AR technology (e.g. adding computer vision and object recognition) the information about the surrounding real world of the user becomes interactive and digitally usable. Artificial information about the environment and the objects in it can be stored and retrieved as an information layer on top of the real world view. The term augmented reality is believed to have been coined in 1990 by Thomas Caudell, an employee of Boeing at the time.

AR, in the simplest way of explaining it, is superimposing graphics or other sensory enhancements over the real world.  So many applications have been created to make the experience interactive.  There are games, maps and even the ability to call someone without actually touching your phone.  You can even see how a dress looks without having to leave your room.

Now there is a new way for people to make use of AR and Zugara, the maker calls it ZugStar.  Zugara Streaming AR. They claim that with this technology, there is no need to even download any proprietary plug ins, it is flash based and works with any browser and there is no software to download.  It just allows people to interact and converse real time, no matter where in the world you are staying.  You can collaborate and share.  Watch the video and you will be amazed at the possibilities of what the technology can do for the different facets of our lives and industries like architecture, medicine and E-commerce.
