The Evolution Of The Geek

I don’t think it has escaped anyone that Bit Rebels is all about technology, fun and geek culture. We’re proud of being geeks, and we take every opportunity to show people the awesome community that we geeks call our home. You don’t have to be a math genius or a gadget fanatic to be a geek, you just have to be interested enough in the geek culture to really take in what it is all about. Being a geek doesn’t mean you have to be an outcast who sits in front of your computer more than you sleep. It is purely about being interested in something that you care to learn as much as you can about it. You’re geeking it out so to speak.

When it comes to the evolution of geeks, the stereotype has changed throughout the years. In the eighties, we saw a bunch of movies portraying geeks as nerdy looking, stuttering and mildly anti-social, but that is far from where we are today. Anyone can be a geek today, and you would never know about it if that particular person didn’t want to tell you. Flowtown put together an infographic that presents the geek evolution in a truly awesome timeline.

You might even be able to call this an upside-down family tree of the evolution of the geek. No matter what you call it, you will still be able to see where it all started and where we are today. Back in the day, there was only one type of geek, but that has come to change into several different breeds. If you want to become a hybrid, I am sure the community will allow it. It’s not like anyone will tell you that you are not a geek just because they don’t think you are. The infographic is fittingly called The Evolution Of The Geek, and after you have looked at it, please comment and tell us what geek best fits for you. We’d like to know so we know what our community is interested in. That way, we can find more interesting stuff just for you.
