This is a typical "old media" reaction (man, this page is rife with discussion material! Good job Misty!) to social media.
Sharing other people's work is not "stealing" unless you plagiarize or claim material for your own.
What Misty has done is promote the work of Mr. Qualman. Much in the same way that Mr. Qualman, through his choice of background music, has promoted the work of Fatboy Slim.

I've heard of a few "old media" outlets (cough, Rupert Murdoch's empire, cough) getting all up in arms over people promoting their material because they feel like they are being "stolen" from, when, in fact, they are shooting the messengers of some of the best word-of-mouth advertising they could have ever gotten.

It's definitely an interesting world. My grandma, in her life, went from riding a mule to driving a car, saw the first commercial airplane trips, and a man on the moon.

So far in my life I've gone from writing out programs (that I saved to cassette tape) in Basic on an old TRS-80, to the wonders of dial-up on a 14.4 modem, to this world we live in today.

My only real quibble with new media is the pervasive misspelling and bad grammar that seems to get promoted (it must be the old print journalist and school teacher in me... I may blog instead of printing now, but I still wish folks had better editing standards). Plus the fact that the immediacy and (relative) anonymity of communications can lead to severe cases of "foot-in-mouth" syndrome, but I hope these are just growing pains that will be ironed out as the media evolves.

A perfect example of what he is talking about is embedded right into the video. I was bobbing my head to the song throughout, and when I got to the end, boom, 'Song: "Right Here, Right Now", by Fatboy Slim'.

I'm probably gonna go download that when I get home from work.

Amazing video. And powerful statistics. I totally agree that Social Media has and will continue to revolutionize communication. My only concern with videos like this is that there is no way to fact check claims made without references. While everything claimed in a video or blog or tweet, may be true, how can anyone know with certainty? Because the truth is, there are liars in the world and people with agendas who like to spread rumors. etc. This is self-evident. I'm not arguing against the veracity of the content of this particular video, just seeing the potential "danger" if you will with social media in that anyone can claim anything and spread rumors, accusations, innuendos, and even outright lies with impunity. What do you think?

Misty, what a great video! Those stats are amazing. It's true that the world is evolving and the way we communicate is changing right before our eyes. I have no doubt that someday a child will ask me, "What was that like?" I'm happy to be paying attention. I don't want to miss any part of it!
