LED Throwies: Colorful Holiday Lights For Geeks!

I’ve always liked LED throwies, and with the holiday season upon us, I thought it was appropriate to write about them since they are, of course, the geekiest little lights ever! In case you are unfamiliar with what an LED throwie is, it’s basically just an LED attached to a magnet and a battery. As you can see in the pictures below, they are beautiful!

What do you do with LED throwies? Well, you can do a couple different things. First of all, being the geek that you know you are, you can decorate outside for the holidays with them. You’ll have the coolest, geekiest lights on the block when you decorate your house, windows, tree branches, mailbox, and whatever else you like with your LEDs. You can even just throw them up in the sky for your own homemade light show.

Some people prefer to have their LED fun inside. Since these are made to be thrown, you can almost use them like darts. It’s fun to play a throwing game and award points for what you can hit with your LEDs. Where can you get LED throwies? It depends on how geeky you are. If you are a super-freak geek, you’ll want to make your own! There is a video below detailing how to do it. There is even a supply list here. And, there is an amazing tutorial on Instructables. Or, if you don’t want to try your hand at making them yourself, you can purchase them here. Happy decorating and happy holidays! I hope if you make some of these this season, you’ll come back and leave us a picture!
