How To: Solve A Rubik’s Cube In Under A Minute

Rubik’s Cubes are a huge deal in my house. My son and I each have several and we work on them on and off all the time. I’ve never before been able to completely solve a Rubik’s cube and since I don’t give up when I can’t figure something out… well… let’s just say I’ve been working on my original Rubik’s Cube for years and years.

I remember one year, when my son was about five, he asked Santa Claus to solve his Rubik’s Cube for Christmas. I bought a new one for him that year, and replaced the unsolved one. He thought for the longest time that Santa Claus was simply brilliant. If you like your Rubik’s Cube as much as I like mine, you are probably familiar with Chris Dzoan, the fastest Rubik’s Cube solver in the world. He was the one that solved a Rubik’s Cube underwater, in one breath, in 25 seconds.

Chris put together this video below which explains how to solve a Rubik’s Cube in under a minute, and no, it does not involve peeling off the stickers and putting them back on in the right place. I found this explanation to be very helpful because he breaks it down into 3 separate layers. You complete the first layer before going to the next, and so on, which makes it all seem very simple. Of course, I still can’t do it in under a minute. But, I like to take my time anyway, so it’s all good. ;)

Whatever that thing may be, if you could do it all day or night long, lose track of time, ‘wake up’ ten hours later, and still thirst for more, that is a passion, and I feel like I’ve found that in my writing.” Diana also spends many hours each week assisting the homeless men and women in Atlanta. 25 secs? And with just one hand? WTF? Them are some serious precision seeing fingers.

Amazing.

Hmmm… I had a Rubik’s cube. I solved it with a screwdriver. Gave the top a slight twist so it wasn’t lined up any more. Popped the screwdriver under the middle square, out it came. Then it was easy to disassemble and reassemble the cube in the solved position. I was never one for doing stuff in a conventional way.
