How Finnish People Were Advised To Open Doors In 1979 [Video]

Finnish Instruction Video Opening Doors

You would think that mundane things like walking up a stairway, sitting down on a chair, or even opening and closing a door would be knowledge that an adult would have by the time they were… well, grown up I guess. However, sometimes things can always be polished and refined, at least if you are being a little bit sloppy in your approach. It’s easy to mistake refined for having manners. I mean, you can have manners without being refined, if you know what I mean. At least to me, being refined means having exclusive manners, but that’s not what we are going to talk about right now. The topic of this article is the insanely interesting video that was recently uploaded on YouTube that will explain to you how to actually open a door in a more stylish way.

Yeah, that’s right! In Finland back in 1979, they wanted people to have a little more style when opening, walking through and closing a door, so they decided to create a little how-to video tutorial. I am both amused and intrigued by this video, and that’s where it gets odd. I guess I am one of those people who hasn’t really pondered the thought about how I open and close a door. It’s quite interesting really, because this knowledge is so out there that I wouldn’t know what to do with it.

I guess in the ultimate land of tango, they have a use for this information, and apparently back in 1979 it made perfect sense to create this tutorial. So if you are one of the people who has a sloppy door technique, this is probably something for you. Just make sure you think about that loose foot and the determined turn when you are inside the room. You will save some time opening, walking through and closing a door like this as well. So by all means, learn the trade of stylish door handling. Do I dare to say this is quite hilarious? (Just don’t ask me what they are saying because I don’t have a sailing clue!)
