Gorgeous Design: Vintage Victorian Steampunk Playing Cards

steampunk victorian playing cards

I don’t think I have ever before looked at a box of playing cards and thought they were eye-catching and gorgeous. I mean, they are just cards, right? These steampunk style playing cards are definitely not just cards, and when you see these pictures, you’ll understand what I’m talking about.

The box the cards themselves are packaged in isn’t your ordinary cardboard box. It’s made from a custom created bronze paper which is designed to look like metal. These stunning cards were created by Theory11. According to The Dieline, “It wasn’t easy. Theory11 made the bronze paper from scratch in order to perfectly print the ink that covers its surface in 19th century Victorian machinery. The boldly stamped, debossed elements cast shadows to create a perspective of depth and weight.

These look like something straight out of a science fiction movie set in the Victorian era. You can pick up these vintage looking cards for only $6 a box at Theory11. What a great price for something so unique and beautiful. These are almost to pretty to play with. Ironically, playing with these cards would just make them look even older, which would add to the whole steampunk look, so I would probably play with them after all.
