Earth Blocks: Lego Just Got Major Competition

We talk a lot about the awesomeness of the Lego block here at Bit Rebels, and we really think that Lego is the solution to everything. I know, it might sound weird but it totally is, from a certain perspective. For a long time, Lego has been the sole competitor to itself really, and the only things that might have been in competition with their different Lego themes were their own new products. However, there are some people out there who seemingly will try and give Lego a run for their money. Don’t expect it to be a “new” kind of block toy; however, since they are all building on the foundation that Lego has already established.

This new competitor is called Earth Blocks, and they’re exactly what they sound like. Well, almost anyways. They’re created out of pure eco-friendly materials such as coffee beans, cedar sawdust or cedar bark. I don’t know if it’s the colors or the kind of blocks that kids will find very appealing, but they surely do their best to preserve the environment. I guess it is up to the parents to show them it matters, and that these can be as creative as regular Lego blocks.

So far they are only available in one size, and that is 1 ¼” by 5/8″ by 5/8,” if that tells you anything. Looking at the pictures will reveal more about their size and shape. When reviewed by Michael Hsu of the Wall Street Journal, Michael said, “Earth Blocks are softer around the edges than the classic toy. As a result they don’t snap together as tightly as LEGOs do.” So I guess there are still quite some leg room for Lego to play around with, but there is definitely some competition on the rise to rattle their Lego kingdom.
