Couch Potato’s Dream: A Motorized Easy Chair

Gas Powered Recliner Vehicle

That’s what I’m talkin about baby! Imagine it’s Sunday afternoon, you are in the mood for a little drive, no problem… as a matter of fact, you don’t even have to get out of that recliner you’re sitting in. What a fun way to procrastinate even the slightest amount of exercise. Too bad sitting is linked to so many health problems cause I could really get into this, ok, maybe not, but I can see how a lot of people would like it! It’s definitely geeky, that’s for sure.

This street illegal motorized gas-powered easy chair took 18 months to make, $1,000 to build, and goes 40 miles per hour. Impressive! Even better, it sounds like a Harley. Chris McIntosh, the designer, is a freshman at the University of Southern California. He is no stranger to building motorized easy chairs. The first version of this chair, which he finished a year and a half ago, was electric powered and only went 15 miles per hour. This chair, which is the upgraded version, is gas powered and goes much faster.

Although Chris admits it’s a bumpy ride (the chair has no suspension), it seems to boogie right along his college campus. I wonder if he ever uses his chair to pick up girls. “Hey baby, wanna get in my chair? I’ll give you a ride to class like you’ve never had before.” Chris can also make a mean hovercraft out of a leaf blower. Dang, if I ever need anything built, I’m calling Chris. If you would like to build one of these motorized easy chairs for yourself, you can read how he did it on Popsci. Awesome!
