Check Out Google Maps Navigation (Beta)

I have two navigation systems in my car. Yep, two. I have a backup in case one fails. I have made a hobby out of getting lost. Since I’ve been known to drive from Georgia to South Carolina and end up in Florida, you can understand how excited I get over navigation systems.

When I watched this video about Google Maps Navigation, I almost fell out of my chair. This is a total dream come true for me, and when I get my Android 2.0 phone, I am very excited it will come with this feature for free.

Since this intuitive system is connected to the cloud, there are seven features that it has that your current navigation system does not have.

When you watch the video below, each one will be explained in detail.

1. Search in plain English
2. Search by voice
3. Live traffic view
4. Search along route
5. Satellite view (high fidelity)
6. Street view (my favorite)
7. Car dock mode

According to YouTube, this video is “a demonstration of Google Maps Navigation (Beta), an internet-connected GPS navigation system that provides turn-by-turn voice guidance as a free feature of Google Maps on Android 2.0 phones.”

This is one of those things that the generation before us would have said couldn’t ever be created. In my opinion, it is nothing short of genius.

I think that is when you know you’ve tapped into a true passion. Whatever that thing may be, if you could do it all day or night long, lose track of time, ‘wake up’ ten hours later, and still thirst for more, that is a passion, and I feel like I’ve found that in my writing.” Diana also spends many hours each week assisting the homeless men and women in Atlanta. Since I recently purchased a droid phone (android 2.0) – I began reading about the all the features, which is how I found about this. Cool, huh? I love it!

Nice find.

In the UK maintaining a connection is unlikely plus carriers charge heavily for data.

Definitely something for the future :)

Does anyone know if this feature will allow for integration into one of my custom maps associated to my google account? see http://peninsulashops.com/map .. basically I want people interested in Peninsula Shops Members to be able to better find such members through this wonderful new functionality.
