5 Resources For The Geek In You

08/21/2009 - 9:00 pm By Diana Adams

When did being a geek become so cool? I remember a decade ago, it was considered offensive to call someone a geek, now it is almost a compliment. Being a geek has transitioned from embarrassing, to mainstream, to cool. Is it because people these days are so technologically smart? Is it because the sexy guys in Hollywood always play the role of the humble geek in movies?

I think we all have a certain degree of geek in us; it simply becomes a question of how much. There is definitely a geek hierarchy or geek-o-meter. I look at my 8 year old son, who not only has his own Mac and PC, but is also on Twitter, and I know that he is poised to become the next generation of super geek.

For all you geeks that were once taunted or belittled, if you were made to feel like a social outcast at any time in your life, that is over! This is your time! Guess what? Somehow you (we) are now part of the cool crowd!

I’ve put together a short but powerful list of 5 geek resources for you to embrace your inner-geekiness:

http://geekadvancement.com This is the Society of Geek Advancement which supports, embraces and unites geeks around the world. (see the video below)

http://www.wikihow.com/Become-a-Geek WikiHow has this page dedicated to teaching people how to become a geek. The 11 step list includes buying at least three small electronic gadgets over $50 and clipping them to part of your clothes.

http://www.gk2gk.com These are the geek personals. Check out the site. Enough said.

http://www.geek.com This is the geek’s online technology resource. This site even includes a glossary of technical terms.

http://www.ehow.com/how_2049876_manage-geeks.html Do you own a company? Here are some suggestions for how to manage your team of geeks.

This post wouldn’t be complete without one of the best music videos ever about everyone’s favorite geek, Waldo. Enjoy!

After publishing a small cookbook last year, she is now working on her new masterpiece, scheduled for publishing next year. “I could write all night long and not get tired of it. I think that is when you know you’ve tapped into a true passion. Whatever that thing may be, if you could do it all day or night long, lose track of time, ‘wake up’ ten hours later, and still thirst for more, that is a passion, and I feel like I’ve found that in my writing.” Diana also spends many hours each week assisting the homeless men and women in Atlanta. Not hardly, I’m 61 and still build all my computers and am starting to teach myself to be a BlackBerry Tech, and learn to use PhotoShop to make thems for the BB. Heck if you aint 6 feet under, go buy yourself a new computer, teach yourself to use Linux and walk around with a cell phone on both sides cliped to your belt. Buy yourtself a t shirt that says on the front “NO I WON’T REPAIR YOUR DAMN COMPUTER” HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Diana – I love the way you put this together! A nice collection of information, fun, and music! I like to say that I’ve been a geek since before it was cool! I married a geek, and am proud to have 2 geek kids! It’s nice to be past 7th grade though! (I related to Waldo, there!). Thanks, Diana!
