For this reason, we see a lot of people ditch shopping all together and create their own geeky furniture. We’ve featured a lot of these one-of-a-kind pieces over the past year on Bit Rebels, but I have to say, I think this one is my favorite so far.

This is an iPhone 4 coffee table, and I fell in love with it the moment I saw it. Of course, it isn’t available in any store; however, if you really want one, you can always buy yourself a huge piece of glass and make it yourself.

I wish I knew who to give credit to for building this little nugget of awesomeness; but unfortunately, there aren’t many details about it online. It would be even more authentic to put some iPhone app coasters on this table to hold glasses. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen an Apple inspired coffee table. Remember the iPod coffee table from back in 2008? I put a picture of that one below also. I would be happy with either one of these in my living room.

We’ve written about bottle openers before. It seems we all get in that situation every so often where we need a bottle opener and can’t find one. With the iBottleopener, you will always have a bottle opener as close as your phone!

I’ve seen a lot of useful iPhone cases in the past, but this one might just be the best one yet. Currently it only fits the iPhone 3G/3Gs, but soon one will be released to fit the iPhone 4. It’s fun, functional, and sells here for $19.95. Apparently the company that makes these is struggling to keep up with demand, and they’ve even started creating another iPhone case with a corkscrew on the back. I don’t know that I would actually buy this, but dang it’s funny for sure.

As we all know, many times in our complex world of social media and online personas, things are not always as they seem. I’m excited about the upcoming thriller, Catfish, which describes a social media relationship gone wrong because of lies and deception.

Photographer and DJ, Sincerely Hana, manages to capture the essence of this in these photographs, which are part of a collection called “Switcheroo.” Is it a man or a woman? Are you sure? I really like the very simple creativity and humor in these images. I’m very curious about what her inspiration was for these unusual pictures.

However, this new little gadget from designer Song Han Xin has surely taken the retro feel concept to a new and higher level. It has been dubbed the “eTape,” and it is an awesomely inspiring little touch screen cassette tape shaped media player that will make your iPod look stupid and old. Don’t we all want to be cool with our gadgets? Well, this one certainly will make you cool. No exceptions.

It features pretty much the same functions as an iPod; however, with the slight difference that it is small enough to fit in your old cassette casings. Yeah, that’s right! Recycling baby! For once, we get to whip out those awesome cassette jewel cases and marvel at their bulky structure and their squeaky noise when opened. If that isn’t enough of a reason to get one of these, I don’t know what is. Imagine having lunch over at Sandy’s and pulling out one of these from your bag. The coolness is instant. No doubt about it!

I have a love/hate relationship with Hello Kitty. If I remember right, my last Hello Kitty article was about how to chomp her head off. This time, I will be much kinder to her since I really like these shoes.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Sanrio and Dr. Marten, the two brands have collaborated to release a few limited edition pairs of shoes, which finally became available five days ago in some Nordstrom stores or online here. I’ve always been a fan of Dr. Martens boots, and I really think these are adorable! They are a little pricey, but then again, what would you expect from the cat that is famous for always taking too much of our money?

Today, after reading this article on Earth Sky, I am now convinced that animals can laugh. Studies from Bowling Green State University even confirm that dogs are capable of complex emotions like fear, anger, joy, and sadness. Although, some sources still question the validity of that information.

Check out this 24-second video below that shows a camel laughing, or is he? Could it be that he is just mocking the sounds that the person is making? Hmm… you be the judge.

Sure, you could probably push it all down in there, only to make room for another 3-4 hours of bad designs and wasteful thinking. However, there is a better way. It’s the flexible waste basket called the “Push-Up.” Even though it has nothing to do with a push up (or I might have missed something) it’s quite a unique and smart design that will save you a few minutes each day.

When the basket starts to get full, all you do is grab the top of it and press it down. The content of the basket will get mushed together, and there will be yet more room for your unbearable design mistakes. When you release the top of the waste basket, it will return to its original shape, and you will be ready to throw more in there. This design, created by Sung-Hyeun Shin, Jeong-Hoon Cha & Chang-hyeun Lee, won the prestigious design award iF Concept Design 2010. I think it is a brilliant idea, and I am hoping we will soon see these badboys in the stores.

It’s hard to believe that Doritos have been around since 1964. They come in all kinds of yummy flavors, but today, when I was poking around the Doritos website, I found a flavor I’ve never heard of before. All Nighter Cheeseburger Doritos taste like a cheeseburger. That’s right. You can taste the onions, ketchup, mustard, cheese and even the beef. Wth?

It got me thinking about what other kinds of bizarre Doritos flavors might be out there that I’ve never heard of before. I found a collection for you to see below. Perhaps you have some of these in your country. I’ve never seen any of them here in the States, although, I’d love to try them! Nom nom!

The guys over at Brown Safe Mfg. have created something that will make you marvel. It’s called The Chronos, and it’s a heck of a technology muscle package. It will probably take you until the end of eternity before you will ever be able to break into it. So why is it so unbreakable? Well, have a look at these features, and I am sure you will understand.

First off, the shell is created by military-grade ballistic armor plating. On top of that, you have biometric finger recognition, a GPS anti-theft system and a multi-sensor alarm with home automation incorporation. If that isn’t enough, it also has automatic watch winders. So, if you ever have the idea to break into one to try and steal what might be sitting inside, just don’t! You will never get away with it… really!

50% of all astronauts get sick while traveling in space, and that vomit, along with urine and other smelly excrement, will go into these newly designed trash bags. To do the proper testing, these researchers figured out a way to make fake vomit. Apparently this is a recipe that took many people a lot of time to create, and it’s very scientific. According to MSNBC, the recipe includes “… cottage cheese, tomato soup, apple juice, soy sauce and frozen mixed vegetables.” In the video below, you’ll see them mix it all up into one gnarly, smelly concoction. Gag.

I’ve been told that a person really needs to make sure that he or she is well protected from the elements when camping or hiking since sometimes the weather is extreme. Being prepared is the key defense for extreme temperatures. I found a jacket that would be perfect for outdoor adventures.

It is called the Jakpak. According to Fast Company – It’s loaded with features, suited for three seasons of camping (spring, summer and fall). The jacket itself is breathable and waterproof. It even has a routing system for iPod cords. Inside, extra fabric in the lining can be unfurled to create a sleeping bag. There’s also another large flap, integrated into the back, that converts the sleeping bag into a one-person tent. The jacket interior even contains a mosquito net.

Here in the States, breasts are a symbol of power for women. These bras, some of which were created as a sarcastic response to our boob obsessed country, are colorful and creative works of art. I really like them, although I can’t imagine actually wearing one of these. Ladies, we’ve all known what it’s like at one time or another to have a bra that pinches us, right? Some people keep chickens in their homes as pets. Apparently chickens are very social, and they make great companions. Ok, I will let you digest that piece of information before I tell you the next shocker.

Since it is impossible to potty-train a chicken, many people that have pet chickens opt for chicken diapers. And, yes, some people take that one step further and they dress their chickens in little outfits. This whole thing is very foreign to me since I look at chickens and think nom nom… but to each his own, right? I’m sure you’ve seen that Diana and Richard have posted some very cool geeky gadgets from Hello Kitty, and now I have found one that is quite different from what we are used to when it comes to Hello Kitty fun stuff. Now they have a Hello Kitty gadget that actually analyzes body fat. The Hello Kitty Body Fat Meter is a good device to have around if you are serious about losing weight. The BF-071-KT is a health meter that comes in four types. The illustrations on the monitor guide you through your calculation of body fat. Along with this comes the D-041-KT, which is a numeric value health meter.

It comes from the brilliant mind of Hayeon Yoo who’s managed to track a person in a digital and analog way through a unique and truly beautiful device. It’s called the “Compass Phone,” but its call function is disabled. So why is it called a phone if you can’t call anyone you might ask? That’s the one question I am asking myself as well. Maybe it’s called a phone because it connects with the twin device to send information back and forth.

It will display the distance between the two devices and in real time tell you exactly where your friend is located. If you open the little device, you will find an analog compass pointing to the direction where the other device is located. It’s a fun little gadget that I am sure could be included in any phone, digitally. However, whether or not we want it is another question. Do you think it would be a scary thought to let the world know exactly where you are and follow your every step?

It is pretty easy to join social networking sites for business and brands, but it requires a lot of planning and strategy to get the most out of your efforts. Okay, you took the first step and joined the sites that were recommended to you. It shouldn’t stop there. Placing an avatar and a profile will not suffice. Here are some things you might want to consider:

1. Research – Know who your consumers are. What do they do online? What sites do they frequent? What are the demographics? What do they think of your brands and your competitors? Who are your competitors and what activities do they participate in?

2. Actively listen – This is something that is easier said than done.  Being able to monitor all the conversations around your brand will be tricky.  Good thing that there are a lot of tools available now that you can use to actively listen to the favorable and the not so favorable things said about your brand.

3. Engage with your consumers – Being in social media has its ups and downs.  There will be people who will love you for it and there will be those that will attack you because of a bad experience with your brand or service. Please take the time to interact with both sides. Engaging with your consumers will allow you to build relationships. This will allow you to be human in their eyes. You will become someone they can reach out to and depend on.

4. Monitor and measure – Make sure that you have the necessary tools to monitor and measure the success of your campaigns. It is through these mechanisms that you will see the effectiveness of your approach in problem solving and in giving your customers the best service that your business or company can offer. It will also help you craft the messages in such a way that it is relevant to your target audience.

5. Be open to change – Be flexible. You have measured and monitored, now you must be open to make the necessary changes in your plans when you see fit.

Social media is here to stay and will be used by more and more brands and businesses to connect with their consumers. I have included a very cool video that will illustrate why it’s here to stay.

Ryohei Yoshiyuki, a designer from Japan, wanted to change this. He wanted to create something that would remind us to look at the beauty in the sky. He succeeded in his goal when he designed this “Time of the Sky” watch.

According to Ryohei, “We are always looking at some kind of window, on the computer, mobile phone and so on, and now a small window on one’s arm.” This watch not only changes colors every few seconds (each color represents a real color in the sky), but it also tells time by the moon or sun’s real appearance at the time it is. In other words, you tell time by reading the sky, which is on your wrist. What a creative idea with a beautiful message!

I’ve had reading glasses prescribed to me ever since I started working more on the computer. My left eye is nearsighted and my right eye is farsighted, so that complicates things even more. It is quite a hassle carrying two types of glasses, and it’s even worse if you have to wear bifocals.
