30 Rock Airing LIVE Tonight On NBC!

Live from New York, it’s…30 Rock? For the first time since October 2010, tonight’s episode of 30 Rock will be shot and aired live on NBC. In related news, NBC has recycled a once clever scheme to temporarily boost its ever-declining ratings.

Taping from Studio 8H, the home of NBC’s lifeblood Saturday Night Live, the cast of 30 Rock will be shooting not one, but TWO live shows to accommodate viewers in both the Eastern (8:30 p.m. EDT) and Central time zones (8:30 p.m. PDT). While both tapings will follow the same script, the ‘live’ element practically guarantees different experiences for audiences across the coasts.

For example, it’s been rumored that the East Coast will be treated to a who’s who of special celebrity guest stars, while the West Coast will be shown a re-run of ‘Beverly Hills, 90210.’ Note: This rumor was just started.

In a recent interview with the New York Times, Tina Fey, star and creator of the show, hinted at the premise for tonight’s episode:

“Word comes down from Kabletown that they don’t want to do “T.G.S.” live anymore, as a cost-cutting measure…Of course the only person who objects on moral grounds is Kenneth [the NBC page turned censor turned janitor], who then spends the rest of the episode trying [to] convince everyone that live television is a magical, special connection among people and the studio itself has an illustrious history that has to be learned about and respected.”
