Russell dear, I will not be surprised if we found out that your brain works upside down...

Asserting the Divine origin of inspiration is much more long-sighted (not short) than your uncritical self can see now. You will learn that with time. Just think more...

@Critical thinker. Not blind follower.

His description of evolution prior to this point is not supposed to be pin-point truth, he's using it as part of an analogy.

I would say that in terms of thinking and inventing, yes, we are God. He's not saying he can point to the moon and change it's shape, but he's saying that we are capable of THINKING that.

Yes, inspiration does come from the outside, but I would say it's SHORT-SIGHTED of you to say it's "god". No.

Please tough, find some more flaws. This man has clearly pushed a button with your religious self. Oh dear, he tried to make you think.

Put anyone on such a stage, give him a microphone, and he'll sound like a genius. Sorry to say this guys, but Mr Philippe Starck's explanations are blatantly absurd....

He sounds humble, yes. But haven't all of you learnt that specific persuasion technique in communication classes? Or haven't you studied enough to be able to spot out nonsense from cream?

First of all, his short-sighted description of evolution prior to our existence HAS BEEN SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN WRONG. It may sound cool, but some things are too cool to temper with.

Secondly, he says "tell our children to INVENT" and associates it to the non-existence of God. "We are god", he says. If really we were God, it would have been long since we would have been able to invent a robot that has at least a tenth of a cockroach's intelligence. What about inventing/creating another man from scratch? It is simply not the case.
Invention and Inspiration are intrinsically related. We get inspired, so we invent. We work, so we create. Ask any designer (Mr Starck included) and he will tell you that inspiration comes from outside. We cannot create it. Which means it comes from someone else... God.

I could go on pointing out the mess from his presentation and its risks to humanity's integrity (as well as design), but I am short of time. I profoundly appreciate his effort to encourage creatives to keep doing what they do, but I think there were a thousand other ways to do that.

Rethink the way you think. Take stands with CONCRETE foundations, before a passionate ignorant comes and rob your mind away.

I caught this one a few weeks back, such a simple, humble and hilarious approach to it all. Sometimes a bit hard to understand but none the less it is definitely one worth sitting around to watch all of the way through. If I remember correctly the last few seconds really sum it all up.
