Used Wonderbras Recycled Into Small Handbags

Bras Recycled Into Purses

Ladies, have you ever worn a Wonderbra? Some ladies will probably relate to what I’m about to say. If you’re an F.B.I. (Female Body Inspector), you might even get a little insight. A Wonderbra is a type of bra that is known to “lift and separate” the girls. It falls into the category of push-up bras which are supposedly undergarments that enhance a woman’s figure. I bought one once. It was an interesting experience that makes me laugh.

Since it had a thick metal wire in it, and the cups of the bra were so strong they kept their shape whether they were on my body or not, to me, it felt similar to what a straitjacket might feel like. I think those things might even be able to get up and walk out of the room by themselves. Ironically, the reason Wonderbras became so popular in the ’90s was because they were known for being comfortable. Pffft… Needless to say, I’m not a big fan.

There is a young designer named Rita Maria Almeida who decided to use those big ‘ol Wonderbra cups for another ingenious use. She recently graduated with a degree in Industrial Design, and she’s started another project. She gets her friends to donate their old Wonderbras to her so she can turn them into handbags. She has a huge collection of all types, sizes and colors. I think the creativity with these is simple, and I like it a lot. I just don’t think I’d want to carry around my stuff in a bra that was worn by someone else. Something about that seems skeevy to me. I also included a few funny Wonderbra ads for you below, and of course, in case you haven’t seen it, the classic chopstick bra.
