Can be! Just like the Coca-Cola logo. If you not noted, the first “C” is different from the second. The first one is draw.

But the maker of the font believes Twitter used his font until 2009:

“Without any doubt, this logo was designed using ‘Pico-Black’. Not merely ‘Similar’. This font was used directly for ‘t,w,i,r’. (‘t’ is the design of old version) ‘e’ is other fonts. I uploaded an image for comparison: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mksd/3654981510/“

I justed asked a friend who is a Systems engineer at Twitter. It’s not a font. It was drawn, there are EPS and AIs available on their website.

“e” and Capital “T” don’t make the cut, sorry. Even the small “t” is slightly off the cross is a bit to high. Very similar font though.

I thought it was either the chicken font or closest I have seen is Tondo all though I think both might actually be ‘after’ Twitter was set up.

The source of this is several websites which I don’t have time to list here. But I believe it is the closest any font has come to be proven to be the real one. But do a search on Google.com and you will get more sources than you think. lol

Looks similar. @Richard Darell: You say that the ‘word’ is that this is the font Twitter used, but who started the ‘word’? If it’s not from Twitter can they really be trusted?

Yeah, there has been many fonts suggested. However, the word is that it IS this one however some letters have been modified to fit their need.
