When we are having a bad day, does chocolate really cheer us up and make us happy again? Is macaroni and cheese really a comfort food? Does it actually make us feel better when we eat it?
As a woman, I have a love/hate relationship with food. I will go for weeks without eating any sugar and then when I can’t take it anymore, I’ll eat an entire pint of ice cream. Is that normal? I doubt it. However, I bet I’m not the only one reading this that has some secret food issues.
Lee Price, a hyper-realistic painter, was so fascinated with the secret relationships that women have with food that she painted the intimate moments, when no men are around, and it’s just women and their snacks. It’s hard to tell in these paintings if the women are eating because they are happy, sad, depressed, lonely or just hungry… nobody knows. I can relate to this a lot. I’ve eaten many meals, alone in my house, completely naked. These paintings are beautiful. It’s hard to believe they aren’t photographs, isn’t it?
