The Perfect Writer’s Cave: Inspiring Office With Overhead Library

Innovative Office With Overhead Library

Now that so many people prefer to read their books in digital format, we’ve written dozens of articles on Bit Rebels about how to give old books a new life by giving them a fresh purpose and perspective as beautiful art pieces or sculptures. However, seeing this innovative home office with an overhead library makes me fall in love with traditional books all over again.

This writer’s cave was created by Travis Price Architects. It’s called a cave because the writer, Wade Davis (who works for National Geographic), didn’t want to be distracted by looking out the window when he was trying to write. Instead, he wanted the office designed to let natural light into the room in a different way than through standard windows. The end result is a room that resembles a cave, with the majority of light coming from the skylight above the overhead library.

The library, along with the ladder, reminds me of those old-school libraries in movies like Ghostbusters. I think the ladder is a beautifully classic touch, but I wonder if it could be removed so that there would be more space to move around the room. I mean, if that was my office, I would have several computers, a printer, a copy machine and several other devices and gadgets all over that desk. It would be nice to swivel around the room without bumping into the ladder. Overall though, this design is brilliant! You can read more about it in Washington Life Magazine.
