Are we all becoming less inhibited as a result of technology? We pretty much tell everyone everything about ourselves in social media, whereas the generation before us still feels nervous about that even today. If we choose not to expose ourselves, anyone can find out just about anything about us if they know where to look on the Internet. This also carries over into the physical world as more and more high tech fashions are being created which almost always have something to do with either exposing our bodies or telling the outside world something we might have previously considered private.
This dress is another example of that. It is called Intimacy 2.0 (you can view the original Intimacy dress here). It is part of a project created by Studio Roosegaarde which explores the relationship between intimacy and technology. The idea is that you might wear this beautiful dress out, for example, to a club. At first, everything seems normal, but as you dance the night away and maybe get personally close to other people, something begins to happen.
The dress itself is made out of leather and e-foils. The e-foils are activated by personal interaction with people. To put it simply, the more social interaction you have, the more transparent the dress becomes. It’s provocative, sensual and surprisingly wearable. Just be careful whom you get all hugged up with in public when you are wearing this. You might just find yourself feeling naked, literally. You can see how it works by watching the video below.
