They say all good things come in threes, and since we’ve featured two articles so far with Star Wars inspired typography, I thought I’d top it off today with a third. Although Richard’s articles about the Boba Fett Typography and the Star Wars Ad Campaign Typography were awesome in their own right, I think this Darth Vader created with his own quotes captures the essence and darkness of the movie like no other one I’ve seen.
These were created by Orlando based designer Evan Travelstead for an advanced type and design project. Some of the Darth Vader quotes that are incorporated into this design include “I am your father,” “I find your lack of faith disturbing,” “You do not know the power of the dark side,” “Your destiny lies with me, Skywalker” and “I have been waiting for you Obi-Wan. We meet again at last.”
This picture is actually spooky to me, like Darth Vader himself. I don’t know how Evan was able to create that feeling with just type. Perhaps it’s the shading of the white and gray, I’m not sure. Maybe that spooky energy is wrapped up in the quotes themselves. I suppose that is part of the magic of typography. Well, however he did it, I’m totally impressed. As far as I know, this isn’t for sale anywhere. Too bad, I would love to frame one of these for my office!
