Innovative Smoke Detector & Mask Design That Would Save Lives

Smoke-Detector-Mask-Save-Lives

The world is full of concept designs from people with big imaginations. Sometimes those designs are completely ridiculous and we feature them just to give you your daily giggle, and sometimes the designs are so good they make you wonder why nobody has thought of them before. The one I’d like to share with you today seems so obvious, and it’s purpose is to save lives.

If you are like me, you have a smoke detector in your home. It’s probably attached to the top of the wall in the hallway or somewhere else that is out of the way and hard to notice. Since we mostly think of them as a necessary evil and an eyesore, it makes sense that we’ve always put them out of plain sight. However, what if for a moment we thought of them differently? What if we started to realize that our smoke detector has so much more potential than that? What if it became more than just an alarm to save lives? What if it became a whole system designed to give us the best possible chance of survival in case of a house fire?

Designer Germain Verbrackel set out to answer these questions, and in the process, he created the TaG. During a house fire, three things can save lives quickly – The alarm which alerts people to get out, smoke masks which can block carbon monoxide, and rescuers who can assist with guiding people to safety. The TaG combines all three of these things into one device.

Instead of having your smoke detector attached to the wall, you would keep it on your bedside table. It would act as your standard smoke detector and blast an alarm if it detects smoke. In addition to that, the TaG itself also acts as a smoke mask which you can immediately grab off your bedside table and hold to your face. Last but not least, with the use of flashing LEDs and a built-in locator, it can help rescuers find you if you get trapped in your house. This device would be useful in every home. Brilliant!
