Retro Brilliance: The Cassette Tape Coffee Table

cassette-tape-table-design

Retro design and coffee tables seem to go together well. It’s a great way for people to add a little blast from the past to their homes. We’ve featured tons of creative coffee tables on Bit Rebels before, and after seeing the VHS coffee table, you could probably guess that the creation of this cassette tape coffee table was only a matter of time. I wonder if CDs will be considered retro in a few years, and if someone will create a coffee table made out of those. Who knows, maybe that’s already been done. If it hasn’t, that’s probably on the way too.

I can barely remember actually holding a cassette tape since everything changed over to CDs when I was still in middle school. I remember that time specifically because my friends and I were in awe of how a CD worked. It was so shiny and thin, and when they first came out, they were all the rage. Almost overnight, cassettes were obsolete.

This beautiful little piece of nostalgia was created by Jeff Skierka Designs. He calls it a Mixtape Table, and he dreamed of making it for five years before he actually did. It’s huge, reversible, and made from maple, walnut and lucite. Jeff and his team are working to get many more made as we speak. You can email him at jeffskierkadesigns@gmail.com if you are interested in purchasing one. It makes me giggle that a lot of people who read Bit Rebels have probably never seen a cassette tape in real life before. This table would go well with the cassette tape lamp I wrote about a while back. Retro rules!
