Receipt Art: Doodles On Restaurant Guest Checks

Guest Check Doodle Art

I’ve always said that you can tell a lot about a guy on a first date by how he tips at a restaurant. In my opinion, you can learn more about a guy from that than what comes out of his mouth. Whether he tips generously, whether he gets out a tip calculator or whether he barely leaves any extra at all are all peaks into his real personality.

I paid my way through University by waitressing and bartending, and I know what it’s like to live on tips. That experience taught me to tip well because regardless of how good or bad the service is, that person is no doubt busting their butt to make it through the day.

The waiters at Rudy’s Can’t Fail Cafe in Emeryville, California recently started a blog about doodling on… you guessed it, guest checks. This is called receipt art, and it’s all about creative and fun sketches. Artists Super Ugly, Cody Williams, Matt Richie, Daniel Logan and others doodle on guest checks in their free time and post them on a blog called Guest Checks. According to their website, Super Ugly is the one who actually started the blog because “he saw all these other cool art sites, and he wanted to be cool also.” Well, I think you succeeded!
